Cost of Recalibration of Standards Is Killing Me!

March 6, 2008

I just received my "annual" invoice for recalibation and certification of my standards used for my XRF thickness testor. Due to the number of coatings we offer there are a lot of standards (41 in all) but paying over $2,000 for recertifying non-contact standards that for the most part reside in a locked cabinet except for occasional use seems fiscally foolish. In order to maintain and appease NADCAP and ISO auditors, I'm curious as to what other quality and cost conscious plating shops do. Do they send them out annually or every 2nd or 3rd year? How are they being charged? etc.

NADCAP or no, I think we will discover that reasonableness rules, Milt.
