Problems in welding galvanneal
[Brazil]
March 5, 2008
Is there a special nozzle or special cleaning process when mig
welding the galvanneal material? I am having too much spatter inside
the nozzle resulting in too many pores in my weld.

The splatter is caused by the zinc coating evaporating and
throwing molten metal. Talk to your torch Mfg. to see if they have
any ideas. PS, welding galvanized metal is hazardous to the welder's
health unless you have an excellent localized exhaust.

The following could help you for better welding
1)Try to grind the surface or edge where it has to be welded
2)check with electrode supplier they will have special
electrodes
3)try to fix exhaust fans near the welding area

suggestions for welding in galvanized material,
grind down welding area to bare metal, start welding on clean base
material and from there you can even sweep over
to galvanised area's
use special flux cored wire made by Lincoln NR 211 MP
this is a gasless welding wire specialy for galv. sheet metals,
available in 0.9 mm and 1.2 mm,
