Need non-toxic brass blackener [Maryland]

I have a customer who is looking for a solution to blacken brass letters on name tags, but it needs to be a non-poisonous solution. I suggested using Birchwood Casey product (Brass Black) which is a brass oxidize, but the customer was a little hesitant to use it due to it's poisonous content. I would appreciate any suggestions.
