Blueing - looking at setting up a blueing station in an shop/educational training area [Canada]

December 5, 2007

We teach 1st year millwright & machining and have a need to set up a blueing station for the projects that students make.

The Main Campus, in another city has used 'hot blueing' but are about to investigate 'cold bluing' as a safer alternative. I believe their 'hot blueing' station uses temperatures around 600 deg., while 'cold blueing' uses lower temperatures.

In any event, I am looking for some alternatives to blue the projects. As well as some suggestions for cleaning/prep. for the materials.

Typically we would be looking at blueing mild steel, (including some leaded steel) as well as 4140.

Any 'kits' along with the supplier and their contact information would be greatly appreciated.
