Mystery Finish Notation

+++++++

This is Hilary at a job shop with locations in the US and China. I have received a customer drawing to bid and there is a notation re: finish that I do not understand. I have searched the abbreviation hoping to find information online but to no avail. Does anyone know what "Surface Finish 1.6 U.N.O. #8 Polish" means?

If you don't understand what the customer wants - Ask the customer.
It saves a lot of time and often a great deal of money.
It also gives you a chance to find out what they really want (which is often quite different) and gives you a reputation for being helpful.

A #8 finish is a mirror bright finish polished and buffed on stainless steel. All polishing lines from abrasives are removed during the buffing process.
