Which liquid takes the longest to make a nail rust?

+++++++

Hi,
I'm Savannah and I am doing another science project and I have to pick one more liquid. My question is: Which liquid takes the longest to make a nail rust? I'm going to use salt water, vinegar, and "?" What else should I use.

Try motor oil, Savannah.

I am doing a science fair project on rusting nails. I am going to place one nail in four jars each containing different liquids, water, saltwater, bleach and vinigar. The results will be evaluated by weighing each nail every day for 4 weeks and recording the results. My question is, should I cover the jars or not? Will it have any effect on how fast they rust? Thank You.

I would say yes, Kalina, because both vinegar and bleach get their activity from gases that are dissolved into them and will dissipate over time. That's why they smell sharply.
