PROTECTING 1075 SPRING STEEL

I require a finish on a part that will prevent it from rusting. We start with a flat piece of 1075 spring steel in its annealed state. The part is cut to size and a set of holes are added. We then bent the piece into a "U" shape; it is then hardened to approximately to RC 45. This is the point at which I am unsure of how to proceed. Could anyone recommend black oxide, phosphate, or something else entirely? The final appearance of the part is not extremely critical as it will be hidden during operation.

If it's permissable for the part to be oily, I'd probably go with the phosphating. If not, you might investigate autophoretic coating. Good luck. Other readers may have additional suggestions.
