Remove spray paint but not original paint from cast iron bulldog? [Indiana]

Hi, I just purchased an old cast iron bulldog. Unfortunately the dog has been spray painted gold. Is there any way to remove the gold paint without harming the original paint? Thanks for the help! Carla
