White powder on gold plated ceramics [Tennessee]

We clean some of our gold ceramics with a Potassium Hydroxide solution can this cause a white powder on our plated parts?

Terry,
The answer to your question is yes. You are probably getting a KOH salt residue. You may want to try a solvent cleaner, which of course would leave minimal residue and would also dry faster. Good Luck!
