Which are better, 316 or 304 stainless steel pots?

++++++

I am trying to decide on a purchase of stainless steel pots. Is it better to purchase pots with 316 stainless steel or 304?

Thanks

Catherine,
The main difference in the two types of stainless is that in 316 Molybendum is added, and contains a little more nickel than 304. The 316 series has better corrosion resistance and resists localized pitting and scarring, because of the addition of Molybendum. If you want the pots to last longer, and have the extra cash, I would buy 316 stainless. Good Luck!

The difference is only that the 316 has an addition of 2 to 3% Molybdenum to improve specifically pitting resistance in normal aggressive engineering environments. For domestic use, I would guess you wouldn't notice the benefit, but if the cost difference is minimal then 316 would be my choice.

Ironically I sell both 304 and 316 in the raw material form but have no clue who makes pots-specifically from 316. Any leads? I have a friend making water distillers and in need of some pots made from 316 and can't seem to fish through the garbage on the web to find anyone who makes it from 316.
