Cleaning 1930s heavy brass tray

I have a 1930s heavy brass tray and I tried to clean it BUT it has black spots which do NOT come clean with Brass cleaner-HELP PLEASE. thanks - I just tried to clean with Brasso [linked by editor to product info at Amazon] my 1920s heavy brass tray BUT the black tiny spots will NOT comd clean-what to use please?thanks I do not have a camera for the comp

Hi Helen,
The tray is likely leaded brass. Brasso does not work very well on leaded brass. I don't know of a home remedy that will work well for you. You could take the tray to a professional plater in your area and they can properly clean and polish it for you. The chemicals used to properly clean the piece are not suited for home use.

Try 5% ammonium citrate(mix 50 gm citric acid/1 lit water and some ammonia,pH must be 9),or only citric acid /water solution.Hope it helps and good luck.
