How to remove rust on the machined surface without affecting the base metal

++++++

I have machined parts which are protected by RPO in a sealed VCI bag. They are stored since three months. Now I want to ship these parts to customer. But rust has initiated.
It is a finish part. I don't want the base metal to undergo any change in color, hardness.
And after that it should be there for a tleast one month. Can anybody suggest the best thing to do.
Thanks,

++++++

You know, there have been a lot of new developements on rust stripping products in recent technical publications that do not effect base metals. I can't think of the names off the top of head right now, but I have referred one company to a product that he now uses. As for protection after treatment, I'm not sure about that.
