Restoring a Copper Sink

++++++

I cleaned a copper sink but didn't realize it had a varnish. Unfortunately it sort of ruined it. I would like to get it back to the copper brown it was and then protect it again. Would you have a suggestion as to an inexpensive way to do this--ie. names of products or how to do a home remedy? I saw that I could buy a chemical called Tricolor Brown from a company for a mere $78 per gallon...not really worth it for me. I'm not sure if there is a good clear lacquer that would last. I'd appreciate any help.
