Letter 40042

"MIL-C-5541 class 3" versus "MIL-a-8625 type III class 2" [Spain]

March 27, 2006

Greetings,

I am engineering student, I am designing a radiator of aluminum and wanted to consult as anticorrosive treatment but is adapted, "MIL-C-5541 Class 3" versus" Mil-A-8625 [link is to spec at TechStreet] Tipe III Class 2 ", and why?.

Thanks,

The former spec is chromate conversion coating, which leaves a thin electrically conductive film on the aluminum. The latter spec is hard coat anodizing, which is a very heavy, electrically insultating, wear resistant finish. I don't know if the former will meet your needs but I'm pretty sure the latter won't. You need to obtain the specs and read them, Lucas. They should be available free from http://assist.daps.dla.mil.
