Seeking Plating Shop to electroplate a sculpture

++++++

I need a plating shop (in Leeds, England) that would be willing to plate onto a sculpture and also advise in what would be the best material for creating the sculpture in, in order to get the best finish from the copper plating.

Hi, Victoria. Hopefully a supporting advertiser contacted you in private to offer their services. Metal is easily the best substrate for plating onto, but just about any substrate can be plated -- although the durability may be a problem, especially if the sculpture is outside.

For something unique, you could consider plating onto wax, then melting the wax away for a hollow sculpture (maybe you've seen hollow gold earrings?) But I would not pick a substrate (other than metal) until you've located a shop that can work with it.

You might be interested in our FAQ about "Plating on nonconductive materials". Good luck!
