Tarnish Resistance Coating for Silver
++++++My company uses Tarniban-2000 as a tarnish resistance coating on silver plated microwave castings. I know that this tarnish preventative is not chrome based but I need to know if it is an azole organic film or a tin based coating?

Hello George,
The only Tarniban version I've used in the past is Tarniban 51. A timely pop-up appeared when I was reading your question, your Tarniban supplier! If it is not on the MSDS, call the supplier and ask them. Ted Mooney does a great job on this website, doesn't he?

Thanks for the kind words, Mark. Like everyone else, Kate and I like to be appreciated. Speaking of which, thanks for your dozens of fine replies in the last few months. It is the sharing of experience by the band of regular responders like yourself that creates most of the value that the site offers.

OK, it's late Friday night and I'm going to get up on a soap box... after all you have a RIGHT TO KNOW and OSHA says you do. The plating industry spends dozens upon dozens of hours ($$$$) to collect, update, order, discard, etc. MSDS's for everything that enters our tanks. Your firm does likewise - get ahold of the Tarniban
2000 MSDS, look up the manufacturer's name and call them!
Word of caution: some Tarniban's do indeed contain hex chrome (i.e. chromates) so be certain of which designation / formulation you're using. The manufacturer will likely be
Technic Inc. who is located in Rhode Island.
