Nickel plating of inner diameter [Serbia]

January 12, 2006

I need to nickel plate inner cylindric surface, diameter 70 mm depth 150 mm thicknes 0,300 mm in sulfamate nickel solution. But I do not know what nickel anode would be appropiate? What is the optimum distance between anode and the surface to be plated. What kind of complications can appear in nickel plating of inner diameters. I would appreciate any helpful information.

Vesna,
The best way it to use a platina anode in protection with anode sheet the anode can be 0,3 mm thats if enough. If you use a current density approximaly 2A/dm2. With this the nickel layer willbe a little harder but you save a lots of machine woorks.

Dear Vesna!
the diameter is not important as long as the solution can circulate and the nickel in your anode is enough to build up.
the important thing in sulohamate nickel is the adhision problem ,so you need to apply aroun half to one volt before you immerse you part ,and keep that voltage fo couple minutes till the part get to bath temp, after increase the amps slowly to around 40-70 or so amps per foot.
good luck and God bless /hope this will help.
