Chemical cleaning and preservaion process
for carbon steel and titanum pipes [India]

Sir,
We are looking for procedures for degreasing pickling preservation
coating of ASTM 106 grade-B pipes and Titanium. We want full details
regarding chemicals to be used at what composition and concentration
and at what temperature degreasing and pickling (chemical cleaning)
to be carried out effectively. Please give duration to be processed
for above cleaning. Please recommend the inhibiter to be used in the
chemical cleaning. Please briefly give the detail of preservation of
pipes for minimum period of 2 to 3 years.

What you are requesting, Mr. Murthie, seems to represent about 50%
of the design effort for the entire project--maybe more :-)
I think someone could recommend some good books on the topic, but
development work and production of satisfactory prototypes and
samples would have to come after the book knowledge but before the
layout of the plant. There are no book formulas that work for all
circumstances; and concentrations and treatment times would have to
be tested with your particular parts.
