Removing FEP Teflon from Stainless 316

+++++

I need to remove FEP Teflon from a large stainless 316 mixing tank in a pharmeceutical-type chemical process. Then I need to have the tank polished to a 4Ra (super-mirror). I hope to do this without having to remove the tank. Is this possible? How should I get the FEP completely off? I've heard bad things about gases emitted when removing teflon via torches, etc. Any suggestion on method?

Thanks,
BtodaG

Do you know the thickness of the coating?
If it is under 6 mils, you can gritblast with organic or plastic media (urea) It takes time but it does not affect the substract.
Take care if you want to burn it out, The FEP contains fluor and it becomes Fluorine acid!
