Brass coating removal from shower fixture

+++++

I have Shower fixtures which are nickel with a brass finish. A shower cleaner ate through the brass in spots and left black streaks. I need to know what I can purchase to remove what brass is left.

It sounds like this wasn't brass, but a tinted lacquer or translucent plastic coating; lacquer thinner [link is to product info at Amazon] may remove it. If not, it sounds like you've already found a shower cleaner that will. Try applying the thinner or the shower cleaner with 0000 (very fine) Steel Wool [link is to product info at Rockler].
