Painting an aluminum telescoping assembly

+++++

I am developing a aluminum product which has a inner spring as is best described as a toilet paper tube with a wide outer tube and a telescopic inner tube that slides forards and back on the spring.
My question is what is the best technique to paint this to ensure paint adhesion?

Thanks for your time,

Phil
