Mural Painting on Copper, exterior exposure [North Carolina]

+++++

I am considering using copper sheets to paint a 10' x 24' mural for a public art project. It will be on the side of a building exposed to the elements and a lot of sunlight. Does anyone have any recomendations for treating the copper before and after painting? How long should I expect the quality of this work to last before deterioration starts to occur?
