Looking for a workable process of stainless electropolishing
+++++
I plan to teach my chemistry class about electropolishing stainless steel, does anybody know any workable process that I can use?

It can't be explained briefly enough to suit an internet response, but the Electroplating Engineering Handbook has an outstanding chapter on electropolishing of stainless steel

Ted,
what kind of chemcials is used? I did some research and found some set-up that I want to try but I do not have any info on the bath to use?
are you aware of any electropolishing process that uses salts only? not acid or alkali solution to produce the same effect? how does this work? any information you might share will be most appreciated.
best regards

I am not personally aware of a viable electropolishing process that uses salts. Peter. Rather they use highly concentrated sulphuric acid or sulphuric acid - phosphoric acid, and other strong acids. If you do not have access to the Electroplating Engineering Handbook, there is some coverage of electropolishing in ASM Metals Handbook, Vol. 5 or in the Metal Finishing Guidebook.
