Chrome plating for Hydraulic rams of Large Earth Moving Equipment

We are seeking advice on what type of method would be best suited for our new proposed business of Re-conditioning hydraulic rams and ram cylinders on large earth moving equipment.
We have been advised that electroplating baths give large amounts of distortion and are prehistoric for today's technology.
We have also been told that spray on chroming is not strong enough to stand up to conditions.
Can you please advise on which direction, in your opinion, we would be best to look into?

If you have decided to go into a business you have no experience in and no knowledge of, the odds of success either way are slim. Further, you apparently have aligned with low quality suppliers and tech service people so far because they are both engaging in negative campaigning--offering nothing themselves, only "the other guy is worse than I am". But I guess my vote would go for chrome plating because it is a technology where you will be able to find several books and hundreds of technical articles spanning the experience of many decades.
