Aged faux finish for embossed wallpaper

+++++

I just bought embossed wallpaper from Home Depot for about $13.00 for 55 sq. ft. I was really interested in the tin ceiling look, but since my ceiling is 25'1" x 14'9". It was too costly. So I found this great wallpaper and it has potential to look like the tin ceiling I wanted. The paper is white now and I am looking for an aged brass and/or an aged gold look. Can someone please help.....I keep hitting dead ends with the searching the net.

Thanks a bunch!

A look that might be close, tea staining w. a clear laquer over it? It would give you a close base color (provided you use weak tea) and the laquer would give it the shine. Conversely you could use bronze colored paint.

My suggestion would be to use a tea stain (or bronze) finish then sponge the raised surface with a lighter color. It will give the appearance of aging and patina. I did this on real tin and it worked brilliantly.

There is a company called 'Modern Masters' which produces a line of paints for that very thing. Their products are used by faux finishers... modernmastersinc.com is their website.
You should be able to find local supplier without problem.
Good Luck.
