Stainless steel worn throught to basecoat

+++++

The previous owners of our cooktop used cleanser on the stainless steel and the base metal shows through a lot. Is there any way to fix this. Thank you for your help

Hello Jan. Stainless steel is a solid material, it is not a coating or plating. So if you have worn through to base metal, the unit was probably nickel plated steel rather than being stainless steel. It can be replated by a plating jobshop, but there is probably not anything you can do yourself.
