Non Conductive Coating [Michigan]

++++

Hello

I have a need to coat a clip used as a fastener. The clip is 304 SS.

Please reply if you have a product or process that will help me achieve the following

This is for a very high volume automotive application and will need to be Validated as such.

The requirements for the coating are:

1) Electrically non conductive

2) The coating should be somewhat flexible (the clip has action)

3) The coating should be as thin as possible

4) The coating cannot scratch chip or peel off

Electrophretic lacquer is probably what I'd look at first.2

I think you could also look at the technical papers published by Dr. Wim van Ooij a professor at the University of Cincinnati. He is a world expert on corrosion. He is very knowledgable about a new chemical species called bis-silanes. The formula is not SiH4.

Depending on the part geometry, quantity and bending involved, a PVD oxide film may be a good choice. Reference Letter 9693 for some choices of oxides.
