Should violinist get his silver strings
white gold plated
++++
My name is Jon Hazen and I'm a violinist. My preference in strings
is that I like a particular type of string that has a silver outer
shell wound over the aore of the string. Even when I perform (and
sweat heavily - which is what happens during a performance)my fingers
get very discolored becasue of the silver tarnishing. I also have a
couple of silver chains that tarnish very quickly as well. Question:
would "white gold" plating over silver be a possible answer to
prevent such tarnishing?

I think what you're looking for is actually rhodium plating rather
than white gold plating, but plating an already wound string might
destroy it as the reagents reached the non-metallic core. Rhodium
flashing the jewelry, however, should be no problem.
