Chart for corrosion of mild steel with
sulphuric acid
++++
Sir,
Do you have any data on corrosion of mild steel with sulphuric
acid , with changes in temperature of the acid? Preferably some
chart? We pump 98 to 99 % sulphuric acid at 40 to 90 degree
centigrade through MS pipes and we need this data.

Hi Pradee,
Am not sure but I don't think you'll get a chart like you want.
I would personally be not so afraid of the temperature but scared
witless if your concentration dropped. .... that's when Sulphuric
tends to become very agressive with metals. Even an airlock (ie.
raised horizontal pipe with a 90 degree downcomer) will definitely
cause problems in the long term. Have you checked at all with the
suppliers of your sulphuric?

If you are sending sulphuric acid for long distance, I prefer to
increase the concentration of acid. Try sending 100 to 105%
H2SO4.(Per sulfat). It is cheap.
