Cracks in decorative copper-nickel-chrome plating

Why does copper Nickel Chrome (Decorative) plating crack?

If it is done right it does not crack, Mr. Taib! It sounds like something is terribly wrong, perhaps in the nickel plating step -- but you would need to give us something further to go on. Does it crack if removed before chrome plating? If removed before nickel plating?

We assume the substrate is diecastings since that is the industry you say you are in.
