Sawtooth trimmed edge from pickle line

++++

I have been trying to get rid of sawtooth on the trimmed edge off the pickle line but this has led to a belled edge on the OD of large coils. I am looking for any advice on what to try next.

Edgetrimmimg on pickle lines can be very tricky. We have seen this sawtooth many times and it can also occur on slitters also. First you must get your operator to understand the slitting process. Then your knife and rubber combination must be correct on your edgetrimmer to get the proper cut and break. You do not want to run your uncoiler tension very high at all. This will cause the strip to pull tight and the knife to slip, which in turn cause the sawtooth. Try running your uncoiler break low and allow the slitter torque to run high enough to allow for a 3 to 4 foot loop after the edgetrimmer. The key is finding the right tension at the right speed.
