Understanding ASTM B 689 Engineering Nickel Coatings

++++

ASTM B689 [link is to spec at TechStreet] ENGINEERING NICKEL COATINGS We are trying to understand this specification, We are required to apply a Type 1 finish. The spec. states that Type 1 is a Nickel electroplated from solutions not containing hardeners, brighteners or stress control additives. Can we use a Watts Nickel Bath? We have presently this process, but we don't know if we need to use a Sulfamate bath (that we don't have). What would be the advantages of one type of bath over the other, what is your recommendation for steel parts barrel plated. We Understand that Type 2 and 3 require different components to be added, like sulfur, silicon carbide, etc to increase hardness, but our spec states Type 1. Any insight will be helpful, thanks in advance,
