Grain Size of Silver [New Mexico]

++++

I am trying to determine the grain size of the silver blanks. Is it is fine if I do the surface finish to 0.05 microns? What kind of etching agent should I use to etch silver? (I am using .9997 pure silver) Any advice greatly appreciated.

You can use acidified potassium dichromate solution, or ammonia/hydrogen peroxide solution:
1o ml sulfuric acid
1oo ml saturated potassium dichromate solution
2 ml saturated sodium chloride solution
Dilute 1:9 with distilled water before use. Useful for silver and cooper silver alloys.
5o ml ammonium hydroxide
5o ml hydrogen peroxide.

Must be used fresh! Good luck!
