How to protect 316 stainless steel from salt deposits

++++

I am using 316 stainless steel under water. Some low current passes through it all the time. After 3 or 4 months salts have accumulated on the steel and it has stopped conducting. How can it be prevented from salt deposits on its surface.

Thanks in advance.

Try using distilled water, (Not the deionized water we put in car batteries).

To be sure the wtaer is chemically pure, you may want to distill the water yourself.
