Definition of coatings

++++

What does an E-Coating and a PU Coating comprise of? Are these 'lacquer' and 'plastic' finishes respectively that offer tarnish resistance? I work for The Sheffield assay Office as Laboratory Manager and Analytical Services Manager. The role of the Assay Office is to ensure that the 1973 Hallmarking Act is complied with in the UK. The AS laboratory is a service offered to industry in helping and advising about their products. There are questions raised that I am not able to answer without research, the research I carry out includes a review of the web. The latest question I have is from one of the clients of mine who are being advised over e-coating and pu coatings, however different manufacturers are saying different things! I am looking for verification.

Thanks for your assistance.
