Chrome fire surround staining

++++

I have installed a gas effect fire with a chrome surround. Whilst treating a lintel above the fire with a paprika dye, some staining has occurred on the chrome which won't come off with a soapy cloth. Are there any cleaning products I can safely use?

Chrome is quite abrasion resistant. If it's real chrome you can use abrasive cleansing powder like Bon-Ami [linked by editor to product info at Amazon] or even steel wool [linked by editor to product info at Rockler] judiciously. But it may not be chrome. So see if there is a plated area which is not visible that you can test these approaches on.
