Letter 27030

Painting metal parts of a desk

I have a desk from Ikea with metal legs and support pieces. Currently it is silver and my husband would like for it to be black. I believe the metal is steel. What would I need to do to paint it black? Does it need a primer? Can it be spray painted or should it be brush painted? Any other suggestions?
