Copper post-treatment

+++

I purchased a copper light (already oxidized) and when I opened it, it feels like there is some type of oil all over it. Could you tell me why its oiled and should I continue to oil it? I have not been able to reach anyone from the lighting company. Thank You.

The Oil is used to preserve the patina, other than using lacquer. I like to use Jasco Lemon Oil to keep it clean, or Pledge which has wax in it that will help to protect the fixture. Good luck.
