Painting soft "foil" like ductwork [Georgia]

I am finishing my basement and would like to leave the ductwork exposed. The ductwork is not galvanized metal, but soft insulated "foil" like duct. I would like to prime the ductwork so that paint will remain on the material over time, any suggestions?
