My decorations stuck together

+++

I made candy canes out of wood to stake in my yard for Christmas. They were stacked in the attic. When I took them down the were stuck together. Many of them need to be touched up. Is there some way to prevent this from happening again?

Don't lick them . . .

Actually, whatever paint you used did not dry right or was hydroscopic. Was it epoxy by any chance? Insufficient hardener will leave epoxy forever uncured.
