Hard chrome wear off and replating

Hard Chrome

We tried Hard Chrome coating of around 20-30 microns on HcHCr tool steel with hardness of 54 Rc. It showed good results and the dimensional change was within our requirement.

The objective is to closely maintain the dimensions. Now as the hard chrome wears off the entire tool must be stripped and rechrome plated "JUST BEFORE" the previous coating has worn off at any region. This will preserve the dimensions of base substrate. Is there any simple (non-destructive) way to determine the regions where the chrome is worn off or too thin to serve any purpose.

Thanks,
