I am using a chromic acid conversion coating to protect magnesium, only to find that when coated the coating soon breaks dowm .What should this chromating solution consist off , and what are the optimum conditions for use

The Magnesium FAQ is really out of date. Alan, why do not you try a modern pre-treatments?

There is a quick update to that topic at Update on Magnesium Treatments, Ilya. If you can further update our non-commercial FAQ in a non-commercial fashion, we would be very pleased to add your addendum! Thanks! But many of the new treatments are proprietary and the vendors offer no substantive technical information about them.
