Paints on outdoor boxes
[India]
+++
Need to know the various paints available for outdoor roadside
boxes which are compatible to IP 55 conditions

Hi Swapnil,
In my opinion, following are the options we have for outdoor boxes
:-
1. Two Pack Epoxy Painted.
2. Two Pack P.U. Painted.
In both the cases the base should be two pack epoxy primer. Also
proper pretreatment process has to be adopted, like seven tank
process with Zinc Phosphate & not Iron Phosphate, specially for
Indian conditions.
One can also go for Pure epoxy Powder coating.
Hope this satisfies you, thanks,

Hello Swapnil,
First & foremost what does IP 55 mean? Is this a
standard where the paint is suppose to meet a specific
requirement?
Secondly, there are n no. of coatings available which
could be used for the purpose [outside road boxes], these
can be chosen on the condition of the boxes at present,
material of construction for the boxes and also on the
weather conditions where you want to install the boxes and
lastly what do you expect from the paint. i.e., long term
durability, gloss retention, improved corrosion resistance
or something else?
A paint system can be based on all these factors and
more, do not forget the cost part.
