Can't get pewter to tumble clean [Arkansas]

+++

I am trying to find finishing methods or combinations for final finish on pewter rounds. I've tried many types of tumbles including vibratory and barrel, and many types of media including stainless steel shot, porcelin, and walnut shell. And many different compounds including chrome oxide, de-limer(phosphoric), and ivory soap and water. The tumble always ends with black or grey parts. Does anyone have any suggestions for achieving a nice clean white finish?

Pewter is a SOB to clean/polish. It is such a soft material that almost everything effects it. About the only luck I've had with that material is to use a treated corn cob mix that has an alum oxide compound in it. We sell either or.
