Using galvanised sheet for motorcycle seat pans

+++

Dear Sirs,

We are the leading manufacturers of motorcycle. As a part of our VE activities, I wish to know if we could use the Galvanised sheets for the seat pan ( Currently deep drawn & painted ). What would be the approximate cost reduction.

Dear Mr Udaya Kumar,

If your client is not going to ever look at the pan, then you may get away with GI sheet as it looks terrible within a years time and will positively rust within 18 months in our coastal cities. Try a 5 micron zinc yellow or black E-Coat if you can spend some more money instead of GI.

Hi, cousins.

Pre-galvanized sheet may afford little protection, as Khozema notes. But hot dip galvanizing the finished article will provide good corrosion resistance if not good aesthetics. Zinc electroplating followed by E-coat sounds like an excellent answer.
