Zinc phosphate vs. gilded surface

We have to re-gild an outdoor sculpture. What about the adhesion ( bonding ) of zinc phosphate primers on a gilded ( gold leaves ) surface?

Zinc phosphating is not suitable for gold surfaces.It will have poor adhesion.It is only suitable for iron surfaces.
