Nickel/chromium plating method

+++

Dear sir:

What is difference between hard chromium plating and nickel/chromium plating ? Why some of companies use in hydraulic industry for protection of piston rods the nickel layer under chrome layer because of corrosion and wear but other use only chrome layer?

Thank you & I appreciate you to answer soon.

Mr Ali

The Nickel Layer under Chrome for Hydraulic rods is to prevent corrosion in exposed conditions. The Ni is Sulfur Free Semi Bright and is plated to thicknesses up to 25 microns and followed by Hard Chrome to specified thicknesses .

dear sir

both of the processes have main goal ie hard and corrosion resistant coating .today by using especial microcracked hard chromium u do not need nickel underlying on steel substrate .hardness of 1000 hv and 100 salt spray is achieved

by proprietary chemical via 25 microns.

in former process nickel layer with stressed deposits plus conventional chromium leads microcracked chromium at top layer.
