Black Oxide For Furniture Use

+++

I am thinking about buying a dining room table that has a steel base frame with a glass top. The base frame has a black oxide finish that has been applied using the cold method. How well do you think the finish will hold up? What can I do to maintain it?

It's quite strange, but very good, that you would know the processing method by which the black finish was obtained. Cold black finishes can be quite smutty and I would suggest examining a white handerchief you have rubbed along the blackened base before your invite your daughter or your son's prom date to sit at your new table in her prom gown.
