Powdercoat as mask for plating [California]

+++

We want to powdercoat an aluminum part, then remove portions of the coating to expose the raw aluminum. Polish the exposed areas and then chrome plate. We have had some success, but have not reached the quality that we desire. Specifically, we get some plating OVER the powder on sharp edges, and we are concerned about adhesion of the powder at the junction of the plating. Suggestions on technique / processes or powder products would be helpful.

Powder coating tends to pull back from sharp corners due to surface tension, whereas plating tends to build us very heavily on sharp corners. You won't like this answer, but you need to radius those corners.

Dear sir
YOU should cover the sharp ages by a self adhesive tape to protect the crusting of coating during chrome plating.
please not the H2So4 in your nickel plating tank is quit harmful for powdercoating. it may work as a stteper of powder coating and u know at the ages the thickness of coating is always less
regards
if u get the remedy pls tell me
thanks
