Looking for inexpensive paint method
+++
We are setting up an operation to make shipping racks for a local
manufacturer. They need a crude paint job just to make them look
uniform and to provide some rust protection. Cost is the major
driving factor. We will be locating near a residential area so,
regulations aside, a noticable paint odor is unacceptable. To keep
the cost down, I want to air dry. Drying time is not crucial, we can
stage parts for several hours if necessary. I don't want to generate
any more paint waste, or environmental contamination than is
absolutely necesary. Can you recommend a process to meet my needs?

It probably depends on the volume. Electropainting would probably
meet all of your needs at a low unit cost once the equipment is
amortorized, but the equipment is quite expensive.

It sounds to me like an electrostatic HVLP (high volume low
pressure) setup is what you are looking for. It is not bad priced,
but it is significantly higher priced than going to a local store and
buying a knockoff binks or devilbuss regular paint gun.

The description does not give clear idea about the size of racks.
If those are small, then Dipping is the simplest process. Secondly if
the water based paints are cheap there then those are preferred.
